Regulation of production and harvesting of cork (Catalonia)

Relevant legislation:

Order of 11th of May 1988 that regulates the production of cork and first-harvested cork and improvements in cork stands. Minor modifications have been introduced in Article 6.1. by the Order of 19th of April 1999, and in Article 7.1. by the Order of 7th of March 1991.

Forest owners who already have a forest management plan approved by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries are exempted from this requirement.

Article 7 specifies the ecological conditions of cork oak trees that need to be in place before cork can be harvested. Moreover, it specifies how cork has to be harvested.

Article 8 establishes quality classification of cork oak stands in Catalonia.

Article 9 lists economic subsidies that can be given to support the conservation and management of cork oak stands, in accordance with the Degree 51/1987.
