Brief description of the instrument and its modus operandi

Ensuring traceability of pineapples and pine nuts at all stages of production, processing and distribution, and encouraging the development of fair trade practices pineapple and pine nuts.

Which problem the instrument is supposed to solve?

Developing pine nuts, like the rest of the food is subject to traceability requirements under Regulation (EC) n. 178/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 January 2002 laying down the general principles and requirements of food law, establishing the European food Safety Authority and laying down procedures in matters of food safety are set. // However, the peculiarities of this production which, in a majority, the use of pine forests is made by companies that do not own them, exceedingly difficult to define a procedure for accreditation of traceability.

Through this tool the accreditation procedure of traceability is regulated in pine nuts from pinecones trading and within the scope of Castilla y León.

How the monitoring is ensured?

Brief description of the context for the emergence of the instrument
