Description
"Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 November Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 November" aims to help producers of agricultural products and foodstuffs in communicating the product characteristics and farming attributes. It harmonizes and unifies in a unique text other regulations as the Traditional Specialities Guaranteed and Geographical Indications and Designations of Origin. The measures aim at supporting agricultural and processing activities and the farming systems associated with high quality products. The regulationindicatesagricultural products with value-adding characteristics and attributes as a result of the farming or processing methods used in their production, or of the place of their production or marketing. It regulate the use of different indication and symbol: PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) for foodstuffs produced, processed and prepared in a specific geographical area using recognised methods; PGI (Protected Geographic Indication) when there is a link with the area and at least one of the stages of production, processing or preparation; traditional speciality guaranteed", "TSG"; "mountain product".The use of denominations and symbols attributes additional value on products, showing their differences with respect to other similar products; it encourages the diversification of agricultural production and, by promoting rural economy, can favour the population in less favoured areas.
