|Description=This Resolution approves the Portuguese National Strategy for forests.
It is based on the necessity to increase the value of forest resources, recognising the their importance to portuguese economy and sustainable land use.This document stresses the importance of reducing risk factors related to forest fires and biotic agents.The strategy features a geographic distribution of three proposed typologies of specialization for the territory of mainland Portugal. Under the Area of Multifunctional Management, the strategy highlights the necessity to develop NWFP: “In accordance with local specificities and complementarily to wood production, other non-wood products, particularly cork and nuts, namely pine kernels in stone pine stands, chestnuts, but also pastures, hunting and recreation areas should be developed". It promotes production, use, management and innovation of NWFP, under six action fields:minimization of risks; territorial specialization; productivity improvement and sustainable management; valorization of forest products; increased competitiveness of the forest sector (includes innovation processes); policy instruments simplification.
In 2013-02-15 a report was issued on the evaluation of the Strategy. This was already expected as part of the strategy implementation. Sugestions for adaptation of the Strategy are presently under analysis.
